Security
How Eligent protects patient information.
Eligent is built to help clinics protect patient information under HIPAA. Here is what that means, in plain terms.
-
Each person has their own sign-in
Everyone signs in through their own Microsoft work account. There are no shared front-desk logins, so every lookup is tied to a real person. When someone leaves, turning off their work account turns off their Eligent access.
-
Each role sees only what it needs
Front desk, billing, office managers and IT each get a role. A role opens only the screens and patient details that job calls for, and nothing more.
-
Patient information is encrypted
Patient details are encrypted when Eligent stores them and when they travel to and from insurance companies, so they can’t be read if intercepted or copied.
-
An audit log that can’t be quietly changed
Eligent records who viewed which patient’s information, and when. The log is built so that entries can’t be quietly edited or removed afterwards.
-
Every computer is registered
Each computer that runs Eligent is registered with the clinic’s Eligent server the first time someone signs in on it, and proves itself with its own key after that. The clinic can remove a computer at any time, and it can no longer get in.
-
The screen locks automatically
Eligent locks itself when a desk is left unattended. If your clinic already has a screen-lock policy, Eligent can follow it instead.
Protecting patient information is shared work.
Eligent is built to help clinics protect patient information under HIPAA. Software is one part of that. Your clinic’s own policies, staff training and computer care matter just as much.
Eligent signs a business associate agreement with each clinic before any patient information is entered.
